The Great Wall of China is a defensive wall desiyed to protect china's northern border.

From the fifth century  onwards, several forts known as the Great wall of china were erected.

The most famous of these was built by Qin Shi Huan,the first chinese emperor.

The work took place between  and was built north of the wall that was built during the Ming Dynasty that can be seen today.

The Great Wall of China is approximately 6400 km (4000 miles) long

It stretches from shanghai Guang in the east to losnoor in the west 

More than a million were deployed for security

It is estimated that between 2 and 3 million chinese died during the construction of tha wall
